This is a sticky post.
I’m a bit of a grammar nerd, and lately I often find myself thinking of words out of the blue that have no context at all to what I’m, at any given point, thinking about. So, I then got this idea to do a “Word of the Day” post, and perhaps it might serve as a roundabout resource.
Most people think that algebra is useless, that only mathematicians **etc** would need it.
And this is all coming from someone who sucks at it.
But there’s a lot of times in my life, and I look at it as x, y, or z… and then it’s “**lightbulb flashes inside head** “AN ALGEBRAIC EQUATION IS NEEDED TO SOLVE THIS ASAP!”
(Unfortunately I could never make/solve equations on my own.)
Not a lot of people need anything past (college) algebra, but it is actually useful in the real world. (Darn those pesky word problems, though they’re quite useful
RE: real world applications.)
So if you’re not going to get into advanced algebra, and other crazy shit (ie: you are going for a vocational education, and so on…) Just take some math classes at a local community college. (If you don’t meet college requirements for college math placement, you do get remedial math is offered at almost any college.)
Just a thought. It’s only logic, problem solving, and such, after all.
In May, I get to resume my yearly ritual of going out to California for Fanime! 🙂
But before I do that, I booked a hotel for a few nights in San Francisco, so I could properly spend a little more time there instead of taking Caltrain to/from San Jose and only getting to spend about 8 hours there visiting the usual sites. I want to EXPLORE! ^_^
Then I’ll take Caltrain to the VTA Light Rail line to arrive at the hotel that Sarah has secured for us and some of her friends.
I’m really excited for once, thanks to the nice little tax credits that I gave birth to. =P It’s what’s allowing me to blow $1,000 on a nice hotel in SF, lol. And instead of flying on Southwest, I’m flying on American Airlines for the first time in years, but it will be so worth it, for many reasons.
Here’s to a great trip, with great friends!
